Riley Owen
Guitar, Audio Production, Piano, Music Theory, Songwriting
Growing up in East Maitland in a very musical family, Riley got hit with the performing arts bug at a very young age. After seeing his father and older brother play guitar for a few years, he was inspired to try the instrument himself as a teenager and since then has never looked back and eventually started to write and produce his own original songs and remakes / covers of his favourites. Completing his HSC in Music (Performance and Composition) he’s now working as a freelance music producer, songwriter and musician. Previously you would have found him working at the reception desk down at NMA in Newcastle where he gained experience working with other music teachers, parents and children.
A lover and a forever student of music, Riley dips his toes into any and every genre and musical style believing one shouldn’t be held back from any sort of boundaries or guidelines when it comes to being creative and expressing themselves. From pop to rock to jazz to folk to blues to country, from The Beatles to Taylor Swift to Green Day to Michael Jackson to Ed Sheeran to Harry Styles to Queen to Frank Sinatra etc, Riley’s appreciation and love of music and musical education is ever expanding.
Specialising in beginner and intermediate guitar, beginner piano, music production and songwriting; Riley encourages a safe, open and inclusive learning environment where anything is possible and anyone and everyone is welcome and seen. Riley’s lessons are personalised and engaging; realising that every one has unique goals, levels of experience, tastes and needs. While every lesson will include essential technique practice and practical music theory work, Riley’s focus is to get you actually playing the songs and music that you LOVE from day one.
Wherever you might be on your musical journey right now, Riley is a kind and encouraging teacher that will inspire and motivate you to bring out the gift of music that is inside you as it is inside everyone.
